LA Times Festival of Books

Posted on 05/03/11 by markn No Comments

I wanted to submit this report on the LA Times Festival of Books.

We had a terrific couple of days.  There were a number of highlights, and overall I feel like we have a lot of work to do once this festival wraps up.

In general, the USC campus was just beautiful.  The festival was spacious and although there was a tremendous number of people, the open space made it feel quite manageable.  The weather, as always, was terrific, and luckily for me, my booth was shaded.  Although I am not a festival guy at heart, it was a nice weekend out.

There were a number of downsides for us authors. Most significantly, a large number of authors were not selling as many books as they had in prior years.  Still, during the lulls we worked on podcast and interview content, and went out and spent some quality time with these other authors and industry folks – and look forward to lots of podcasts over the weeks to follow.

Here are a couple of pics from our setup and some of the wonderful and talented authors whom I had the pleasure to meet – and I’ll be sharing some video, lessons learned, etc. over the coming days.

Here are a couple of videos – one we took at the festival, as we explored and learned a few things, and the other was the advertising video provided by the festival for promotional purposes. Hope these are interesting…
